Best DE Pizza Places…That Aren’t Grottos

Ever heard of Grotto’s Pizza? If you haven’t, you probably aren’t from Delaware. This popular chain has scattered locations all over the state, making it one of the most well known pizza chains in Delaware. Their striped cheese and sauce pizzas are iconic!

But if you aren’t in the mood for a chain, here are some local pizza shops you HAVE to try!

    Cacciatori Pizza & Pasta

    4.6 stars on Google

    Located in Newark, DE

The owner of this highly rated restaurant, Angelo Dabbraccio, originally began his pizza legacy in the Bronx back in May of 1976. He continued to grow his business throughout other sections of NY and later expanded to CT. One day in 2004, he and his sons stumbled upon Newark, DE and instantly fell in love. The store finally opened in 2006 and has been thriving ever since!

Locals rave about their food, ranging from subs to italian entrees to, of course, their pizza. Their regular style crust pizza will make you question if you’re still in Delaware, or if you’ve somehow found your way to NY. It’s THAT good!!

    La Pizzeria Metro

    4.7 stars on Google

    Located in Wilmington, DE

Looking for great food and an excellent atmosphere? Check out La Pizzeria Metro in Wilmington for a taste of authentic wood fired pizzas. Located next to Wilmington Brew Works, it’s the perfect place for a night out with friends! You’ll love it so much, you’ll wish you found this place sooner. Make sure to leave room for dessert as their cannolis are mouth watering.

    Cafe Valentina

    4.6 stars on Google

    Located near Pike Creek, DE

This authentic, family-owned eatery is located right off of Limestone Rd. Get ready to fill up quickly as the portions here are HUGE!! And you can skip the Olive Garden, because this place has delicious garlic-bread. Long-time customers have nothing but nice things to say about the owner and the service of this entire restaurant!

    Two Cousins

    4.1 stars on Google

    Located in Hockessin, DE

Philly may be known for its cheesesteaks, but Two Cousins is FAMOUS for its chicken cheesesteaks. This mom and pop shop has some of the best rolls I’ve ever had. What’s their secret? They hand-make them from their pizza dough! Not in the mood for a sandwich? You MUST try their Sicilian pizza. It’s the perfect place to stop for a quick lunch before heading over to Piedmont stadium for an afternoon baseball game.

    Dom’s NY Style Pizza

    4.5 stars on Google

    Located in Newport, DE

This pizza shop may be small, but it’s menu sure isn’t! You can choose from a variety of options: pizzas, sandwiches, entrees and appetizers. One of my personal favorites is their panzarotti, which is similar to a giant Totinos roll! When grabbing your pizza don’t forget to get something from their selection of wine or beer too. You’ll quickly want to make this a new regular spot for your food outings.

These are only some of the great pizza shops in New Castle County. As you head farther South toward the beach you’ll find more and more places to try!

And of course, if you don’t feel like being exploratory, there’s always the familiar taste and smell of Grottos! 😉
